Kathryn Alicia Monahan, 90, of Cottonwood, Arizona passed away on January 22, 2018. Alicia was born to Evelyn (Sweeney) and Joseph Monahan on December 3, 1927 in Lilly, Pennsylvania. She is survived by her brother, Robert J. Monahan of Lilly, Pennsylvania, and preceded in death by her sisters, Betty Marotta and Mona Patterson, and her brother, Paul aka “Sonny” Monahan. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Alicia lived a life of service, including her work in the AmeriCorps VISTA program, taught English in numerous high schools, and was a Professor at Northern Arizona University, where she also earned her Doctorate in Education, and co-authored a book on teaching. In her work with higher academics, Alicia assisted challenged students as student teachers. During her later years, after retirement from the University, Alicia volunteered at Verde Valley Medical Center, working in the mail room and the cafeteria, where she made many friends and was honored for her multiple years of voluntary service. She was also a talented artist and taught stained glass and painting. The family requests that donations be made to American Red Cross in her memory.
