Your recent coverage of the upcoming Verde River Days event has been broad and extensive.
Good job on the part of the Verde Independent!
In addition to the founders of the event, there have been several local groups who have been there since day one and the Verde Valley Rotary Club has been one of them.
Pete Sesow and Dick Larson belonged to our club and they had us out there cutting weeds, trimming trails, tidying up prior to the event.
Another item Pete and Dick had the club do was to sponsor the Duck Race.
Thirty years later, our club looks back and we see that we have been able to award about $300,000 in scholarships to students from Mingus and Camp Verde high schools from the proceeds of this fun event.
We Rotarians solicit sponsorships from local business and sell individual tickets.
We work hard to help deserving students get the college and vocational training that may elude them without some special help.
Where did the money really come from?
It comes from the generous citizens of the Verde Valley; Rotary is the conduit.
Thanks to all who have participated in the Duck Race over the years as your efforts are paying huge dividends via the education of many many students.
Tom Taylor, President, Verde Valley Rotary
