All nine Camp Verde High cross country runners that finished recorded personal records on Friday night.

The Cowboys ran at the Phoenix Classic – Showdown at Sundown at Crossroads Park in Gilbert.

Senior Justin Ritzenthaler led the way with a time of 17:36. The other boys were senior Sy Hanson (19:30), senior Bryon Mina (21:26), freshman Austin Dexter (24:01) and Ruben Tracy (32:18).

On the girls side, Destiny Elio had the top time for CV, 24:41. Raven Pelfrey (28:44), Jasmine Jones (30:54) and Bennett Holm (35:42) also recorded PRs.

The Cowboys’ next meet is the ALA Invitational on Wednesday at Cesar Chavez Park in Laveen.

Cowboys boys soccer bounces back

Camp Verde High boys soccer rebounded on Thursday after their five game win streak was snapped earlier in the week.

The No. 5 Cowboys (6-2, 4-0 Central) routed No. 14 Ash Fork/Seligman 6-1 on the road on Thursday.

On Tuesday CV lost 7-1 at No. 1 Blue Ridge, which ended the Cowboys’ win streak that dated back to Sept. 6.

The Cowboys travel to No. 19 Payson on Thursday in their next game. Camp Verde’s next home match is Oct. 15 against No. 2 Chino Valley at 6 p.m.

Camp Verde girls soccer also rebounds

On Friday Camp Verde girls soccer also recovered from a tough loss to a highly ranked team.

The No. 8 Cowboys (2-4-1, 1-2 Central) beat No. 10 Page at home on Friday afternoon. On Tuesday CV lost 8-0 at No. 1 Northland Prep.

After starting the season 0-3-1, the Cowboys have won two of their last three.

Camp Verde’s next game is Tuesday at 4 p.m. when No. 9 Payson comes to town.

CV volleyball slays the Spartans

Camp Verde High volleyball held off Northland Prep on Thursday night at home.

The No. 32 Cowboys beat the Spartans 3-2 after falling 3-0 at No. 9 Scottsdale Prep earlier in the week.

Camp Verde dropped the first set against NPA 23-20 but took the second 25-23 and the third 25-21. Northland Prep struck back in the fourth, winning 27-25 before CV won the decider 15-11.

The Cowboys’ next match is Monday at No. 5 Sedona Red Rock. Their next home match is Oct. 17 against No. 16 Valley Lutheran.
