I would like to comment on the fine article written by Jason W. Brooks and add to it.
The reason that roundabouts are becoming more populous is they are an alternative to traffic lights.
I don’t have recent information but when the roundabouts were being designed for Sedona, the state of Arizona led the nation is red-light accidents and red light fatalities.
To date, we have had no fatalities at a roundabout here. Yes, it takes time to become accustomed to roundabouts but if we learn how to drive them properly, they will save lives.
By properly, I mean drive them with the intent to keep traffic flowing. Use your turn signals to let other drivers know what you plan to do.
Don’t “slam” the roundabout by failing to slow down and blasting through them.
